The Commonwealth  Legion CIC - Connecting those who serve(d)

Who we are and what we stand for

The Commonwealth Legion CIC is a community interest company supporting members of the Armed Forces communities  particularly veterans and Service personnel of commonwealth descent who serve(d) in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. The commonwealth Legion is fully incorporated in England and Wales with registration number 12639016

It is envisioned that our common history from the British Commonwealth, service in the HM Forces, the shared sense of unity, solidarity and culture among members will be the driving force in supporting this network of veterans and Service personnel

The Commonwealth Legion was founded by a group of Ghanaian Veterans and service personnel. Our mission is to advise, support, assist and promote the interest of the Commonwealth Armed Forces Communities in the UK and abroad as well as the wider community of those who served and continue to serve.
Commonwealth service personnel have contributed enormously to the British society both in peace and war times. In spite of their enormous contributions in our Armed Forces and communities, they are often the forgotten heroes.
Today, Commonwealth Veterans and service personnel continue to face multiplicity of challenges including but not restricted to access to safe and secured housing, job security and opportunities, Immigration issues including exorbitant immigration fees to regularise their stay in the UK after service, ability to navigate the complex civilian life after service, cultural shock, family issues, homelessness, inclusion, institutional discrimination and racism, societal disadvantages among others.
Such disadvantages are compounded by several intersectional factors which make them even more vulnerable culminating in serious disadvantages which could have a lifelong impact on service leavers and Veterans of commonwealth descent.
The commonwealth Legion is the only organisation in the UK which is dedicated to helping Veterans and service personnel of Commonwealth descent in the Armed Forces, our communities and overseas territories. We believe with the right help and support, we will be able to contribute our quota to help them not only survive but thrive.
We thank you for your support and we believe with the help of the general public and support from the government and  organisations, we will be able to give the necessary and well deserved support our heroes from the Commonwealth deserve.

Some members of CLG with Pte Hammond

Pte (now Warrant Officer) Hammond the 95-year old Ghanaian world war Veteran with Prince Harry

Thank you to members of The Commonwealth Legion CIC who supported and helped organise Pte (now WO) Hammond's COVID19 walk in Accra, Ghana. As a result, Pte Hammond was honoured recently by the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo by promoting him to the rank of a Warrant Officer. The Queen and the British High Commission in Ghana also honoured WO Hammond for his contribution to raising money to help fight this epidemic and creating awareness during these difficult times. Ghana has over the years produced some of the best British soldiers who have worked hard to achieve operational effectiveness across all cap badges in the British Armed Forces
